UPDATE (1/15/21, 12:32 PM EST): Times are tough for those still struggling to get their hands on Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 5. On January 14, the Sony Rewards Twitter account announced a limited restocking of the PS5 for the next day, sparking a lot of excitement among fans looking for the ballyhooed console. True to its word, the account posted a link to Sony’s website just before noon, allowing those who clicked to access a small number of consoles, which come with an additional controller.
Not surprisingly, the consoles instantly sold out. Surprisingly, PlayStation 5 consoles could only be purchased by redeeming Sony Rewards points – which is appropriate given the account that teased the replenishment, but an unusual hurdle nonetheless.
Weighing in a hefty 56,998 points and capped at one unit per limb, Sony may have anticipated that consoles would last longer than they did, given the landing page clock that is still dropping. from 3 pm, despite the disappearance of all consoles. . If nothing else, the booming demand demonstrates a tight supply unable to meet the immense demand.
