Well, it’s safe to say that the origin of the Steelers blew up the internet with the removal of former offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner. It’s also safe to say that many Behind The Steel Curtain devotees jumped up on a cold one and celebrated. We all know why he was hired and why he was hired longer than he should have. The need to keep a happy Benjamin Roethlisberger would be the right answer here.
Questions remain with this move, and they could have an impact on the future hall of famer. In the previous Burning Questions article, I asked if the brass would have the stones to cut Ben Roethlisberger? So these next questions correspond to this original request.
Was this move part of the “nudge” process to maybe get the Hall of Fame away from itself?
Why would Roethlisberger want to maybe spend his final year and learn another system or develop a relationship with a new offensive coordinator. It doesn’t make sense to me other than what I’m asking in the question above. Part of an ingenious plan put in place by the front office?
Speaking of a new offensive coordinator, let’s assume Ben is on board and sticks around for one final round.
Is Ben Roethlisberger included in the next hire of said coordinator? Does he have his say?
I just want to remind everyone that I am a huge fan of Roethlisberger. I have defended the guy many times, but I also think it’s time to start a rebuild. As I said before, if he and the organization make a final decision, I will support the decision and I will support the Steelers.
That said, my reasoning for this reboot is one game and one game alone, and that wasn’t one of the multiple interceptions. It was the opening slam, the one that flew over Roethlisberger’s head and what followed immediately after. I was so pissed that Ben didn’t fall on that bullet. It’s the playoffs and this could be the last game you play. I’m not saying Ben never sacrificed his body for this team, and it’s a fan base, but it wasn’t the way I ever imagined Ben Roethlisberger apparently coming out. I once called Ben a scary warrior. When the physical tools decrease, the cerebral aspect must remain, at least kicking the ball to the back of the end zone. A devoted fan but it’s just time …
