“Yesterday, I tested positive for COVID-19. I will be responsible and I will quarantine myself, away from my family, for the recommended time,” Correa wrote on Twitter.
The diagnosis, he said, will cause him to miss the inauguration of Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Wednesday.
“While I miss the long-awaited inauguration of President-elect @JoeBiden, I can’t wait to work with the new administrator to unite our country!” he said.
CNN has contacted Correa’s office for further details.
Correa is among dozens of MPs and senators who have contracted the virus in recent months, as the Covid-19 pandemic rages across the country.
Three Democrats at the start of the week said they tested positive for Covid-19 after taking cover with other members of Congress who did not wear masks during the violent Jan.6 attack on Capitol Hill American.
CNN reported earlier this week that Correa was accosted by supporters of President Donald Trump at Dulles International Airport following the pro-Trump insurgency on Capitol Hill.
