The Philadelphia Eagles’ search for coaching continues to spread its wings far and wide.
Add two more high-level names to the discussion.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the Eagles have requested permission to interview Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and will interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels over the weekend, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
With the Bieniemy Chiefs in the playoffs, the Eagles would have to wait until the KC playoffs are over before they conduct this interview.
The Eagles mark the first time a team has taken an interest in McDaniels during this training cycle. After leaving the Colts embarrassed in 2018, interest in the Patriots OC waned.
Philly would be an intriguing landing spot for McDaniels, especially if the new coach’s primary focus is to help jumpstart Carson Wentz’s career.
If the Eagles waited to interview Bieniemy, he would be a famous choice among fans as the right-hand man of Andy Reid, who remains popular in the city.
In addition to Bieniemy and McDaniels, the Eagles have requested interviews with Bucs DC Todd Bowles and Cowboys OC Kellen Moore, scheduled an interview with Patriots linebacker coach Jerod Mayo, and completed an interview with OC des Panthers Joe Brady. Philly was also in the discussion with Robert Saleh, who was hired by the New York Jets, and Arthur Smith, who landed the job with the Atlanta Falcons.
