Well, shit. The Bears’ offseason dream of fixing one of their biggest draft mistakes seems to be ending before it even really begins.
Deshaun Watson may already be in Houston, but he wants his plane ticket to say “Miami”, not “Chicago” when the final handshakes are over:
People in and around the Texans’ organization increasingly feel that Deshaun Watson played his latest snap for the team. It’s at the start of the offseason, there is plenty of time left, but Watson’s feelings cannot and should not be underestimated.

League sources believe that #Texans QB Deshaun Watson performed his last shot for the #Texans and the #Dolphins are his favorite destination, according to @AdamSchefter and @mortreport pic.twitter.com/9TQS9mWrVe

There has been no shortage of reports of Watson’s dissatisfaction with the way things have turned out in Houston over the past two years, so there is no real surprise here about his (1) desire or ( 2) his ability to get out of Houston. Indeed, that’s what we were counting on, as the same former Bears front office is prioritizing the quarterback position once again this offseason. The biggest (but worst for Chicago) is that Watson wants to go to the Dolphins – a team that can surely put a pretty attractive deal on the table, especially if they include Tua Tagovailoa plus a few early players (including, potentially, a top pick. this year).
(And it’s not just Miami)
This is what bears would face. Maybe the general # 2 choice. Maybe Tua. It will take a lot to get Watson. https://t.co/N70xp2LyQo

Bears, you will recall, choose 20th.
No, trading for Deshaun Watson would not absolve the bears of their past sins and would certainly cost a lot to do. But this team is hungry for a franchise quarterback. And at least trading for an established, aged talent like Watson wouldn’t require too much membership or belief in Pace / Nagy. We know he’s a star. And we know bears need it. We haven’t gotten past the point of return, but if Houston is to trade Watson, Miami certainly seems to line up with them better than Chicago.
