FBI releases photos of suspects wanted in alleged assault on officer in riot on Capitol Hill

Federal officials on Sunday released photos of seven suspects wanted in the alleged assault on a police officer in Washington, DC, during the deadly pro-Trump riot on the U.S. Capitol.

In a report, the Federal Bureau of Investigation alleged that the suspects, all men, assaulted Mike Fanone, an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, after violating the Capitol building.

The case is one of 300 that authorities are still investigating in the Jan.6 insurgency, a law enforcement official said on Sunday. Seventy-four people have been charged with federal crimes and 42 others have been indicted in Washington, DC Superior Court.

Among those arrested is a man who allegedly stole the lectern from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a conservative activist and recently elected West Virginia State Delegate and a Virginia police officer.

Investigators examined more than 150,000 photos and videos of tipsters.

Fanone told NBC Washington he suffered a mild heart attack during the riot after being repeatedly hit with a stun gun and beaten with a flag featuring pro-police footage.

During the alleged assault, Fanone said rioters took his badge, radio and a magazine with ammunition.

“The guys were trying to grab my gun,” he told the station. “They were chanting, ‘Kill him with his own gun.'”

Another officer, Christina Laury, told NBC Washington that rioters assaulted officers with bear spray, metal poles and “anything and everything” in their efforts to enter the building.

Fanone said that after he started shouting that he was having children, some members of the group helped him get him to safety.

“To the people who have helped me, thank you,” he told NBC Washington. “But f *** you to be here.”

The riot left five people dead, including US Capitol policeman Brian Sicknick.
