DENVER – One of Denver’s last iconic restaurants is shutting down for good. Denver Diner announced Sunday that it would not reopen.
Dinner has been a staple on the corner of Colfax and Speer for over 30 years. But restrictions placed on the business amid the COVID-19 pandemic appear to have contributed to the owner’s decision not to reopen.
The restaurant closed in November when Denver went level red on the state’s COVID-19 dial. However, the city moved to a less restrictive level earlier this month, which made it possible to eat indoors at a 25% capacity.
“It is with great sadness that we announce our decision not to reopen. Read the article if you want to know more. We may be gone now but not forever, ”Denver Diner wrote on its Facebook page, with a link to a Westwood article announcing the closure.
The restaurant’s general manager, Konstantine Skordos, told Denver7 that he hopes to open another Denver Diner soon, when he’s sure to do so, but it won’t be in the same location.
