Amid growing dissent over his recent web series Tandav, show creator Abbas Zafar apologized on behalf of the entire cast and crew, saying they didn’t have the intention to offend anyone or to insult a religion or a political party.

“Our sincere apologies,” Ali wrote on Twitter, sharing the “official statement from the cast and crew at Tandav.”

In the statement, Ali said they are keeping a close eye on the line and stressed that the series is a complete work of fiction.

“We have been following viewers’ reactions to the ‘Tandav’ web series closely and today in a discussion the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting informed us of a large number of grievances and of petitions received on various facets of the web series with serious concerns and apprehensions about its content hurting the feelings of the people, “the statement read.

“The ‘Tandav’ web series is a work of fiction and any resemblance to acts, people and events is purely coincidental. The cast and crew had no intention of offending the feelings of any individual, d ‘caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or scandalize an institution, political party or person, living or deceased. Set in Delhi, the series revolves around the theme of power, ambition and greed through a very political story.

The series has been criticized by several people claiming that it causes community disharmony and hurts the feelings of Hindus. According to complaints, a scene with Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub performing a play at the university insults the Hindu deity Shiv.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting previously sent a notice to Amazon Prime, the OTT platform broadcasting the show, requesting its response to the complaints.
