Oscar winner Javier Barden has reportedly been called in to represent Arnaz. News of the casting was not made official, but was reported in Deadline and other professional publications, prompting some fans to complain.
“I felt I had to at least calm the waters here,” Arnaz said in his Facebook video. “There seems to be a lot of talk about Nicole Kidman. It should be Debra Messing. It should be Carole Cook, I don’t know.
Arnaz, 69, reminded people that the film is not an update of “I Love Lucy” and its classic episodes, but rather the actual story of his parents.
“Here’s the deal. You should understand. We’re not doing a remake of ‘I Love Lucy.’ No one should pretend to be Lucy Ricardo, or the Vitameatavegamin routine, or the chocolate factory routine, or any of the stupid things, ”she says.
“It’s the story of Lucille Ball, my real mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband, Dezi Arnaz, my father, not Ricky Ricardo. There will be humor in the movie, but it’s a story about the two and how they met and what went well with research on the show, what went wrong, their relationship, their romance. “
Ball died in 1989 at the age of 77. Arnaz died in 1986 at the age of 69. The couple, who also had a son, Desi Arnaz Jr., married in 1940 and divorced in 1960.
Arnaz has said his parents’ legendary sitcom will not be an integral part of the film, but rather serve as a key backdrop.
“Now of course there will be ‘I Love Lucy’ in it,” she said. “In fact, Aaron Sorkin put him on the scene of a week-long shoot of rehearsal, rehearsing and filming the show. But all of these other things happen during that time. Very little of the show is actually “I like” Lucy-type stuff. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with that, though.
“Aaron did a terrific job of bringing these characters to life, and that’s just a small hint. It’s a little slice of life on their journey. It’s not the whole story. isn’t a cradle-to-grave biopic. It’s two – an hour-long feature film about these two people and some of the remarkable things they’ve been through. So I hope I can set the record straight here, and just say, stop arguing about who should play her, “She doesn’t look like her, her nose isn’t the same, she’s not that funny.”
Arnaz concluded by telling everyone that everything would work out in the end.
“Trust us, it will be a great movie, and PS The vote is over,” she said. “I love you all.”
