Developers among us know new things take time, here’s why

The developers of Among us dropped a line on Tuesday to thank fans for their patience and to explain why new developments in the multiplayer hit are coming slowly.

Among us gained incredible traction quite late in 2020, which we weren’t expecting, and that has meant a LOT of changes for us, ”InnerSloth wrote on the studio’s official blog. “Not only did we have to come back to work Among us after we thought it was done, but we also needed to set ourselves up in a more sustainable way to work on the game.

Among us launched on Windows PC in November 2018, but it became a hit in the quarantine culture and social gaming after top Twitch streamers started streaming it over the summer. The additional hiring and organizing required to take over the game’s post-release support took a few months, InnerSloth said. It also meant that the studio stopped working on a sequel in September, to ensure that players on new platforms weren’t harmed by the original game.

“There’s a ton of other things out of our control (legal issues, meetings, scheduling) so sometimes those things take longer, too,” the blog read.

Among us also made its console debut with the Nintendo Switch in December, which involves certification and processes other than post-launch support for the original game. InnerSloth, based in Redmond, Washington, has four employees. “We have help from our porting partners for this,” the studio said, “but it still means we have to make sure that our future activities are supported on these platforms.”

Among us will launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X this year, and is already available on Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers. At the Game Awards 2020 on December 10, Innersloth announced that a new map, Airship, will join the game.
