Katy Perry closed the opening day Celebrate America gig with a surprise performance from his 2010 hit “Firework”. Other performances on the special include Demi Lovato, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, and more in honor of Joe Biden becoming the 46th President of the United States.

Performing outside the Lincoln Memorial, Perry began his booming hymn with a stripped-down take, singing over a sobering piano accompaniment. As the fireworks began at the National Mall, the song resumed its lush and uplifting beat. The First and Second Families were seen watching the show as Perry wrapped up his performance.

Perry actively campaigned for the Democratic candidates in the 2016 and 2020 elections. Following Hillary Clinton’s loss in 2016, she wrote in response a “targeted pop” album called Witness. “When I first went out, we lived in a different state of mind in the world. I definitely was. I was in my twenties, ”she said Rolling stone last summer, referring to the launch of his career just before the election of President Barack Obama. “We were flying high in life. We weren’t fighting like we are. There wasn’t much division. All the inequality was under the rug. It was tacit. And now he’s really facing us.

Last year Perry released his fifth studio album Smile. She also welcomed her first child with her partner Orlando Bloom, named Daisy.
