Disney announced yesterday that the beloved show, The Lion King Festival, will return in one form or another this summer. Disney has informed us that the show will return in modified form to include safety measures designed to keep performers and members of the public safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Considering the limited interior space of the Harambe Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and some of the intricate dances and acts, including groups of artists and acrobats, we wonder how far the heart of the show will return with these security measures in place. In October of last year, the entire Lion King Festival fairness cast was fired.
The Tumble Monkeys are one of the most beloved acts in the series, a group of four skilled gymnasts who perform an impressive trapeze and gymnastics routine. Most of the flips, twists and swings that are preformed in the act are performed by the Tumble Monkeys in tandem, turning close together or holding each other with common hands or legs. It has been confirmed that this act will not be part of the edited version of the show coming later this year.
While we’re really excited for the return of this audience favorite, it’s worth noting how different it will be.
