A woman who worked as a personal assistant for rapper Soulja Boy alleges in a lawsuit filed on Thursday that the artist sexually assaulted her, beat her and took her hostage.
The woman said she started working for Soulja Boy, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, in California at the end of 2018.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles and identifies the assistant only as Jane Doe, says the abuse began when Way sent the woman an unsolicited photo of his penis shortly after she began to work for him.
The couple eventually ended up in a consensual relationship, but in January 2019, Way began to physically abuse the woman, according to the costume.
And in February, Way sexually assaulted the woman for the first time, the costume said, adding that he “expressed remorse” afterwards and gave her $ 1,000. Later, “on numerous occasions, and sometimes twice in the same day, defendant Way inappropriately touched the complainant’s body, forcefully pulled off her pants and raped her,” the lawsuit said.
Way often became jealous when the woman received comments on Instagram or received a phone call and responded by throwing her to the ground and hitting her on the rib or hitting her, according to the lawsuit.
“During this abusive relationship, the defendant Way hit the plaintiff directly in the head on at least ten separate occasions,” the lawsuit said.
Once, Way followed an assault saying, “I should have killed you,” according to the costume. After verbal abuse, he would often say, “I didn’t mean it,” the costume added.
He also locked the woman in a room with no hot water for three days after trying to stop and leave, according to the costume.
In August of last year, “Way attacked the complainant so hard she thought she was going to die” and when she regained consciousness outside her home, she ran away.
When she returned to pick up her things a month later, “Way refused to return her things to the Plaintiff and instead took the opportunity to rape the Plaintiff again,” the lawsuit claims.
The lawsuit said the woman had nothing because she had not received the salary promised to her when she was employed by Way for 18 months. She alleges that she was not paid the $ 500 per week promised to her by Way for her duties, which included cleaning, cooking, driving the musician and managing travel itineraries.
“Way’s treatment of our client, as an employee and as a person who deserves respect, traumatized and filled her with fear,” her lawyer, Neama Rahmani, said in a statement. “Her abuse imprisoned her physically, mentally and emotionally. When she found the courage to flee, he impoverished her. Its exploitation severely hampered our client’s ability to relocate to the workplace and into society. We believe he should be held responsible. “
Way had previously served a sentence in 2019 for a probation violation stemming from gun possession charges.
Last year, an ex-girlfriend sued Way on charges of assault, battery and false imprisonment. The case is pending.
Soulja Boy rose to fame in 2007 when his debut single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Representatives for Way did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Friday, but a spokesperson told TMZ: “Soulja would never get his hands on a woman. He would not beat a woman or get his hands on a woman … it doesn’t make sense !!! “
