‘WandaVision’ twins set the stage for ‘Young Avengers’ movie

At the end of Wanda Maximoff’s pregnancy so rapid which makes my heart beat in WandaVision, she gives birth to twins named Billy and Tommy. At first glance, they are around 2 to 3 months old when they are born. It could be because Hollywood hardly ever makes newborns look like newborns. Alternatively, it could be a sign that the reality of Wanda’s sitcom-verse is shifting so quickly that it’s starting to crumble around it. We just don’t know!

This is what we make Namely: The Marvel Cinematic Universe puts Billy and Tommy in the fray for a reason. They are well-known and beloved characters from the Marvel comics, and their existence in the MCU raises huge questions about the future of the franchise. Before you start speculating, here’s what’s important to understand about the Maximoff kids.

Like their mother and father, Billy and Tommy have superhuman skills, which could make it difficult for them to be educated in the “normal” suburb of Westview. (It’s safe to guess that this will take into account Brady Bunch-weird humor in future episodes.) In the comics, Billy Maximoff has reality-warping abilities much like his mother, Scarlet Witch, while Tommy can run as fast as his late uncle Pietro. Notably, neither of them seem to share any abilities with their father, Vision.

Which makes us wonder if …

They may have been made from shards of a demon’s soul.

Regarding, I know!

So far, the MCU hasn’t delved too deeply into the mythological components of the Marvel Comic Book Universe, except for its storyline centered around Thor and Loki. But Marvel has long loved to create larger-than-life villains that take the form of demons, gods, and goddesses (and cosmic entities that like to eat entire planets). So it’s no exaggeration to think WandaVision could guide new villains, more from another world. Which brings us to the demonic Mephisto.

Many fans believe Mephisto will be WandaVisionHe’s the ultimate big bad guy. In the comics, Wanda is so desperate to have children with her android husband Vision that she creates a fake pregnancy, then uses her magic to bring her two twins into existence. What she only learns later is that she pulled Billy and Tommy’s souls out of shards of Mephisto’s soul, imbuing them with something evil. When Mephisto comes to retrieve these Soul Fragments, the twins disappear, effectively “dying” and sending Wanda sinking into grief.

I would be surprised if WandaVision follows this exact arc: A) because it’s predictable and B) because it’s extremely dark – but it would have be the perfect opportunity to reveal Mephisto’s hold to the ropes of the show.

We might see a different version of it in future MCU movies.

What makes Billy and Tommy appear in WandaVision So upsetting is not necessarily how they will affect the show itself (although those implications can be huge). This is how they could make an impact all the next MCU movies.

You see, in the comics, Billy and Tommy reincarnate as Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd, two super-teens who ultimately go through Wiccan and Speed. At the time, they didn’t know they were brothers, and they didn’t understand their connection to Scarlet Witch and Vision. Eventually, Billy puts the pieces together: When he starts telling people he’s the reincarnated son of Scarlet Witch, they sort of imply he’s a crazy super-fan and push him to stop being a weirdo. But Billy – still a darling – persists, and finally it is revealed that he is telling the truth: Billy and Tommy have, indeed, returned from beyond the grave!

At this point, Billy and Tommy are the main members of the Young Avengers. Billy is one of the first gay characters in the Marvel Universe, deeply in love with his shapeshifting team member Teddy Altman aka Hulkling. We know from previous casting announcements that more Young Avengers are heading to the MCU screen: Hailee Steinfeld will play Kate Bishop in the upcoming Disney + show Hawk Eye; Kathryn Newton will play an older Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania; and Xochitl Gomez will play America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. These news nuggets are almost a dead giveaway that a Young Avengers franchise is on the horizon, and Billy and Tommy could be their next heroes.
