STRAIT – Welcome Sunday night, Motown!

Sunday night we have a new blanket of fluffy snow over Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Many areas were awarded an inch or less, but Oakland County and some neighborhoods were awarded 1 to 3 inches. Even a small amount of snow can cause huge problems, so be careful on the streets and sidewalks on Sunday night.

Scattered showers recede after dinner time on Sunday. Most of Monday will be dry during the day, then more snow will arrive for Monday evening and Tuesday.

Sunday evening will be cloudy with scattered snow showers and cold temperatures in the upper 20s.

Sunday night will generally be partly cloudy and cold. The lows of the night will be in the upper teens and the 20 year olds.

More snow is likely Monday through Tuesday. A distinct area of low pressure is moving south of southern Michigan. The cold air will get stuck in place as the storm intensifies, builds up moisture, and throws it over Southeast Michigan as light to heavy snow. Afternoon temperatures will be within 30 seconds on Monday and Tuesday.

The first snowflakes arrive late Monday afternoon. Flurries get heavier and more widespread Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. Tuesday remains snowy with intermittent light snowfall after sunrise and the rest of the day.

All Detroiters will need their snow shovels. Some Michiganders in the Southeast will spend more time clearing snow than others. The heaviest snow will be from Detroit to Ann Arbor south to the Michigan-Ohio border. As of Sunday, higher snow totals are expected to reach 3 to 5 inches between Monday and Tuesday. A lighter amount of snow – 1 to 4 inches – will fall from Eight Mile Road north to I-69 and the Thumb area.

Remember: Forecast snow totals are subject to change, so stay tuned.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be sunnier and cooler. Daytime temperatures will be in the mid and above 20s. Nighttime and early morning lows will be in teens with wind chills sometimes close to zero.
