The Skywalker Saga will feature around 800 unique characters, of which 300 will be playable.
New details on the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga have been revealed in official PlayStation Magazine this month, including the number of playable and non-playable characters.
According to Dawn McDiarmid, lead designer of the hub at TT Games, The Skywalker Saga will feature around 800 unique characters, of which 300 will be playable. McDiarmid also confirmed that many of these characters are from the new Star Wars trilogy, including fan favorite Babu Frik.
The Skywalker Saga is built from the ground up in a brand new engine and will feature an explorable open world and space battles that players will encounter at random. McDiarmid told OPM that there are 23 planets and moons with a total of 28 unique locations for players to visit and explore. McDiarmid says, “If you have a favorite Star Wars location, chances are you can visit it in-game.”
Another unique feature of The Skywalker Saga is the ability to play through the campaign for each movie in any order. The developers wanted to make sure players could get the Star Wars experience they wanted, so there isn’t any sort of linear progression between the stories. Due to the more open world approach, players will also be able to collect and complete multiple quests at once.
While TT Games guarantees players that all of their favorite Star Wars moments will appear in the game, the developers also felt that some improvements were needed. McDiarmid notes that Rise of Skywalker felt he could have done a lot more with Finn, and that The Skywalker Saga will be their “chance to turn things around”.
The first gameplay sequence for The Skywalker Saga premiered at Gamescom last year and showed some of the new features, including new upgrade options and the ability to aim down. While The Skywalker Saga was originally slated for release in 2020, it was delayed in August until a date announced this year.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S later this year. The pre-order bonus for the game is a carbonite LEGO Han Solo SteelBook feature.
