PS Plus is Sony’s first service, and while it has always been clear, it looks like it came in 2021 determined not to be eclipsed.
Since the PS2 and OG Xbox days, the two “factions” of gamers have debated what is better hardware, who has better exclusives, and more. The last two years have seen a new point enter: what is the best subscription service? For Sony, there are options like PS Now and PS More, while Microsoft offers games with Gold and Game Pass.
In the end, few would deny that Game Pass is the highest rated subscription service on the market today. It provides access to a ton of games, has started getting bigger titles from Bethesda and EA, and will see all Xbox exclusive content launch there on day one. Perhaps Microsoft’s confidence in Game Pass led to the recent rising gold price debacle, which Microsoft quickly realized was a mistake and backed off. This is only good for the company, but also neither here nor there. Game Pass is still going strong and despite serious structural differences it is PS Plus’s biggest competitor itself.

PS Plus is required to play non-free games online, but it also grants free games every month. Since the start of PS5 marketing, PS Plus has doubled down on what makes it so great, increasing its value and placing itself right next to the hardware. While many expected months to pass before PS5 games did PS Plus credit, this is not the case. As a result, PS Plus is gearing up for a big 2021.
Free PS Plus games for January 2021
The value of PS Plus cannot be understated. Getting a full year comes at a big discount and can be stacked when sales and deals are going, but even for those paying $ 9.99 / month, that’s barely $ 120 / year. This issue is remarkable because, by following the free games of January 2021 at their full value (as reported by the PlayStation Store), Maneater, GreedFall, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider comes at $ 150. It’s more in games than the full year costs at its highest price, and so far this year those subscribers have only paid $ 9.99. Even taking into account the reduced prices, used copies of these games total around $ 58.97 compared to $ 9.99 aside. Even one of those games outweighs that cost.
Putting the price aside, however, the strength of PS Plus is again as January puts 2021 on a good track, but it follows an excellent pattern. Many were reasonably upset last summer when two simulation games were made available, and it looks like Sony took that lightly. Since then, there has been a constant influx of good games with PS5 games on top of that. Of course, there is a question of durability here and ultimately PS Plus will have another bad month, but few could say that a bad apples or two could really ruin this tree.
Free PS Plus games for February 2021
After all, it’s not just January peaking in this stride, fans know more games will be announced in the coming days. The free PS Plus games for February 2021 are still mostly in the air, but most importantly, fans know they have access to a PS5 game for two months (which means those who are still trying to get one can always cash). AllStars Destruction takes place in February 2021, and will be joined by two more free games. The trick is, AllStars Destruction launches on PS Plus, like a very small list (BugSnax, fall guys, and Rocket league) before that.
We don’t know what will join AllStars Destruction in March or if there will be another launch game to follow it in April, but in the end, PS Plus did nothing. PS5 is a top-notch hardware system (both consoles are), but PS Plus proves it’s just as valuable in the subscription department.
Playstation plus subscribers get AllStars Destruction and more in February 2021.
