THPS remake developer Vicarious Visions is reportedly currently working on a remake for Diablo II in his new role at Blizzard Entertainment.
Apparently, Tony Hawk’s professional skater Remake developer Vicarious Visions directs production of remake of Blizzard Entertainment classic Diablo II. This news follows the absorption of Vicarious by Blizzard, which has spent the last 15 years and changed as a subsidiary of Activision.
Vicarious’ new role as the Blizzard Support Team allows him to remain stationed in Albany, New York. The studio has undergone quite a few changes when it comes to leadership, however. Among other things, studio director Jen Oneal received a promotion, taking a place on Blizzard’s own management team as executive vice president of development. In his absence, Vicarious’ director of operations, Simon Ebejer, took on the role of studio manager. A Blizzard press release indicates that the two entities are already collaborating “for a while, “however, the details were not yet publicly disclosed.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Blizzard’s Team 1, the crew behind the universal set Warcraft III: Reforged, led development on Diablo II ‘s remake until last year. Blizzard disbanded Team 1, reassigning some of its members to other parts of the business and others were said to have been made redundant over time. Accordingly, the responsibilities Diablo II revival (also called Diablo II: resurrected) have been handed over to team 3, the crew currently attached to Diablo IV. Sources close to Blizzard’s operations said Bloomberg that a group within Vicarious helped Diablo II since last year.
It remains to be seen whether such a project is the best use of the talents and resources of Vicarious Vision. Many fans expressed their disappointment once news of the team’s merger into Blizzard came online. Most are concerned that Vicarious could suffer the fate of Activision’s Raven software, which before last year Call of Duty: Cold War Black Ops, had not developed his own project since 2010, often forgotten Singularity.
The publisher acquired Vicarious in 2005, and it has been busy for 15 years. The New York-based studio has overseen the development of many notable Activision franchises, including Skylanders. Recent successes have pushed Vicarious into the stratosphere, in large part thanks to his much-acclaimed work on the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Last year, the developers revived another beloved ’90s franchise with Tony Hawk 1 + 2 Professional Skater, which became the best-selling entry in the history of the series.
