Sarah Huckabee Sanders announces gubernatorial campaign

Former White House Press Secretary Sarah huckabee Sanders officially announced Monday that she would run for governor of Arkansas.

In a video message posted to his campaign website, Sanders cited threats to his life during his time in the Trump administration in an appeal to voters in the deeply red state.

“To remain free, we must have law and order and resolve our differences peacefully,” Sanders said. “The solution of the radical left is to impose top-down government control and censorship.”

Sanders, a Republican whose father was state governor, told the Arkansans their governor was a “last line of defense,” with Democrats taking control of the White House and the Senate in the recent election.

“As governor, I will defend your right to be free from socialism and tyranny, your Second Amendment right, your freedom of speech and religious freedom,” she said.

The Hill first announced Sanders’ plan to run for governor on Sunday night.

“I took on the media, the radical left and their culture of cancellation, and I won,” Sanders said in his campaign launch announcement. “As governor, I will be your voice. And never let them shut you up.

She will join a Republican primary field in a race to replace the Republican governor. Asa Hutchinson, who can no longer run after eight years in office. The state’s Republican attorney general and the lieutenant governor have both announced they will be running as well.

Sanders touted Trump’s accomplishments and vowed to mirror his platform if elected to the state’s highest executive office.

“My opponents will do everything in their power to destroy me,” Sanders said. “But I won’t apologize for who I am or who I fight for… I won’t bow to the radical left. Not now. Never.”
