In response to a rapidly changing market, video game giant Konami will shut down all three production divisions in a restructuring effort.

Konami will officially dissolve its three production divisions.

The digital entertainment company announced via its website that Konami would dissolve all production divisions “to respond to the rapid market around us” in an effort to restructure the company. As stated in the report, this includes production divisions 1, 2 and 3. This will take place on February 1, 2021.

The announcement also mentioned structural and personnel changes and included the appointments of Hideki Hayakawa as chief operating officer, Shoji Dewa as general manager and Koji Kobayashi as general manager. All staff will take up their new roles within the company from February. Some members of disbanded production divisions will be moved to general production and product support, but no further information regarding these changes has been provided.

The video game giant, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019, has released classic titles like Metal gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill. Recently, the company reissued some titles from the Metal gear and silent Hill series on PC, as well as a Konami Collector Series: Castlevania and Contra, also for PC. However, the company has been particularly absent from mainstream games in recent years and has killed off many of its flagship franchises, consistently refusing to reboot the aforementioned classic titles.

No other information regarding the restructuring of the company has been disclosed to date.
