Magic: Legends Open Beta Begins March 23 on PC: Hipsters of the Coast

Magic: Legends, Cryptic Studios’ upcoming Magic: the Gathering action RPG, is slated to enter Open Beta on March 23, 2021 for PC.

Legends was originally announced at the Game Awards 2019 as a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) set in the Magic Multiverse. However, as more details were released about the game, Cryptic has stopped calling the game an MMO and instead calling it a “persistent online action RPG”.

First impressions of the game reveal that it is comparable to Diablo-style action RPGs with an added deck-building component. You select a class – which roughly lines up with one of Magic’s five colors – and then build a set of 12 spell cards. These cards are “drawn” at random from your character’s four spell slots, where they can be used to summon creatures or cast spells.

Magic: Legends will be a free game. Players will start by gaining access to one of the game’s classes, with the others being accessed through a cash purchase or in-game currency grinding. Likewise, random card packs to expand your arsenal of spells will be available at the both in cash and in-game currency.

The game’s beta period was previously scheduled for 2020, but Cryptic announced last September that it was postponing the beta until 2021.
