The jungle cruise through Disney theme parks in California and Florida, long criticized as racist, is getting a facelift to remove what society has called “ negative representations ” of certain cultures.

Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger also tweeted about the “ exciting ” changes following the announcement.
The changes to the ride, which opened in 1955, come after the company announced in June that it would be overhauling its Splash Mountain ride.

The changes follow a cultural judgment in the United States on systemic racism that has led to the redesign of several TV shows and movies.
Disney said in June that its Splash Mountain ride was also being revised to remove its associations with black stereotypes in the 1946 film “ Song of the South, ” on which it was based.
The problematic movie hasn’t been available on any Disney platform since 1986, when it was re-released for a 40th anniversary theatrical release, according to SFGate.
Fans remained mixed when the company announced it would trade the Brer Rabbit theme of the ride to replace it in The Princess and the Frog.
Last year, the entertainment giant also posted notices on some of its classic animated films, including ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘The Aristocrats’, warning that they contain outdated or stereotypical depictions of people of color.
