LINCOLN, Neb. – In the days before and after Nebraska’s game at Iowa in November, coach Scott Frost went out of his way to present Luke McCaffrey as the Huskers’ “future” as quarterback.
So much for this future. McCaffrey left, opting for the same route out of Lincoln on Tuesday that ex-classmate Wan’Dale Robinson took two weeks ago.
The transfer portal is a popular destination for the Huskers following a third consecutive losing season under Frost. Since Christmas Eve, seven scholarship recipients have taken the plunge.
Wide receiver Kade Warner, a captain added to the scholarship in 2020, and offensive lineman Will Farniok also announced their departures Tuesday as the spring semester opens for Nebraska students. Yes, McCaffrey lost the starting position after two games last season and struggled to pass, Warner hasn’t scored a touchdown in three seasons and Farniok was a career substitute.
Stop the rotation. Tuesday…
