Freeform has handed out a fifth and final season renewal for its signature drama starring Katie Stevens. The final season, which will air this year, will consist of six episodes. That’s down to 16 in season four and 10 each in its first three rounds. Additionally, Nikohl Boosheri will reprise her role as fan favorite Adena El-Amin.

The series, which revolves around young women working for a magazine in New York while balancing their career and personal life ambitions, wrapped up the second half of its fourth season last summer on Disney-owned Basic Cable Network. .

While ratings have declined year over year, with viewers continuing to switch from cable to streaming, The daring type was a landmark spectacle for Freeform. Revived in series after being originally developed at NBC, the Cosmopolitan-The inspired drama was developed by former Freeform originals manager Karey Burke as part of the cable guy’s increased focus on programming that catered directly to his young adult demo.

The final season’s pickup is among the first decisions made by Freeform’s new executive regime, with Tara Duncan replacing Tom Ascheim as cable network chairman last year. She has since put together her leadership team, led by originals manager Jamila Hunter.

The daring type is a brand-defining show for Freeform. It was refreshing, relatable and fun to watch Kat, Jane and Sutton use their friendship to navigate the intricacies of modern life, ”Duncan said. “This is one of my favorite shows, and I’m proud that we’re giving the show the envoy that Wendy, the amazing cast and crew, and beloved fans all deserve.

Created by former showrunner Sarah Watson, the drama had three showrunners in its run after Wendy Straker Hauser (who has been on the show since season one) took over from Amanda Lasher after the first run.

The daring type was a gift that really changed my life. I spent my 20s in New York working in magazines, so in many ways the series feels very personal to me compared to my experiences, ”Hauser said. I absolutely loved writing this show and living in this world. I will miss it terribly, but I am very grateful for this opportunity and happy to know that it has been a comfort to so many people. “

The daring type originates from Universal Television and is produced in association with Freeform and The District. Matt McGuiness, David Bernad, Ruben Fleischer and Joanna Coles produce alongside Hauser.

The daring type is part of a declining list of scripted originals at Freeform that also includes Grown-ish, Good Trouble, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, Motherland: Fort Salem and the next one Was cruel.
