PS5 exclusive return postponed to April 30

Back from the release is now pushed for just over a month, Sony Interactive Entertainment ad today.

Developed by Housemarque, Return The release was originally scheduled for March 19. Today’s delays fall to April 30 to “give the team more time to continue fine-tuning the game to the level of quality that players expect from Housemarque,” according to the SIE.

Not only Return amazing look (expected, coming from the studio which made 2013 extremely well polished and well regarded Resogun), it’s also one of the few PlayStation 5 exclusives on the horizon. Most of the new generation games that have already been released will be available over multiple generations. Next to The way—Which released yesterday for Xbox Series X and S—Return offers one of the first chances to see what a next-gen game can do when unleashed from the latest-gen technology.

Earlier this month, video games based on Harry potter and the Lord of the Rings universes have been delayed to 2022. The third person shooter Outriders has been delayed a large release from February to April 1, although a free demo will be available on February 25. Ubisoft’s Steep-as Republic of the Horsemen was pushed from a February release to an unspecified date later this year. And last fall, Ubisoft deferred Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine, which were originally scheduled to be released by March 31. All-Stars Destruction, a launch title planned for the PS5, was pushed out of 2020. This will hit the rolling ground next month, where it joins February’s “free” PS Plus games for the PS5.

We’ve seen what happens when top-tier video games aren’t kept in the oven for as long as needed. Last year, the highly anticipated CD Projekt Red Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed (thrice!) and still released with many bugs, glitches and performance issues on the latest generation consoles. Return is not married to the latest generation technology, but still. Take all the time you need, Housemarque. We’ll play it when you feel it’s good and ready.
