Ethan Hawke Joins Blumhouse’s Upcoming Feature The black phone, reprising the actor’s ninth re-crew with producer Jason Blum.
Hawke joins Jeremy Davies, who we first told you about, in the film directed by Scott Derrickson which will be distributed via Universal. The cameras will roll The black phone in North Carolina next month. The plot is kept secret. Derrickson and his frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill adapted the script based on the Joe Hill short story.
Recently, Hawke starred in Blumhouse’s Showtime series The good Lord bird, which replaced the actor’s television debut. Hawke also produced and co-wrote the series based on the National Book Award winning novel by James McBride. The seven-part limited series follows the story of abolitionist John Brown, played by Hawke. The series was recently recognized by the American Film Institute (AFI) as one of the best TV shows of the year.
Coming soon, Ethan will star alongside Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard in Robert Egger’s film The Northman as well as the next film by Abel Ferrara Zeros and ones. Hawke received supporting actor nominations at the Oscars for Childhood and Training day and Screenplay adapted from Oscar names for Before sunset and Before midnight.
Derrickson, Cargill and Jason Blum, for Blumhouse, are producing the film. Universal and Blumhouse will present the Crooked Highway production. Joe Hill is an executive producer.
