Florida State landed a commitment from Neptune Beach (Fla.) Duncan U. Fletcher three-star junior low defensive end Aaron Hester Thursday afternoon. Hester made this pledge public on his 17th birthday.
The decision to pick FSU was an easy one for the 6-3, 221-pound defenseman.
“Mike Norvell, just the way he approached me at the start of my recruiting, it was like no one else did. Just the way he said he believed in me. It was like no one else, ”Hester said.
Hester is the son of former Seminole Ron Hester. He said being a heirloom didn’t play an integral part in his decision.
“It didn’t have much to do with my dad, but of all the schools and offerings I trust them the most,” he explained of FSU.
Although he didn’t feel any pressure to follow in his father’s footsteps, his decision filled his father with joy.
“He’s really excited and not just because he’s been there, the main reason he’s excited is because it’s my decision and what I want to do. It didn’t take any persuasion, ”Hester said.
Hester did his best job in high school working on the edge as a passer. FSU considers it the same way.
“They see me as an edge player standing in the box almost like a Nolan smithHester said.
This past season in eight games, he recorded 53 tackles, 10.5 sacks, four breakouts. He also had 150 rushing yards and four attacking touchdowns.
It is the fourth entry for FSU in their 2022 class. The class is moving towards a Top 10 class and it joins some top players. As FSU comes out of a season that saw just three wins, Hester believes the future is looking in the right direction in Tallahassee.
“I see myself in this future and I think it’s brilliant,” Hester said.
247Sports.com ranks Hester 18th among weak defenses in the 2022 class.
He chose FSU rather than Miami, Mississippi State and many other offers.
