The Kansas City Chiefs are trying something that hasn’t been done in 16 years.
When Patrick Mahomes leads the Chiefs to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on February 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady, Kansas City will look to become the first team since the 2003-04 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super. Balls.

Coincidentally, the Chiefs will be looking to do it against Brady, who was the Patriots quarterback. Two other teams recently had the opportunity to achieve the feat. The Seattle Seahawks in 2014 had a chance, but Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson to seal New England’s victory. In 2017, the Patriots fell to Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles, a year after staging the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history against the Atlanta Falcons.

The odds may be against the Chiefs since it hasn’t happened in nearly 20 years, but head coach Andy Reid is excited about the challenge.
“What I can see as positive is the record, the fact that we have persevered through some tough games,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, “and so the mental tenacity to do it individually each week was important, knowing that you are going to get the most out of people, and there is the respect factor.

“They didn’t question themselves, they didn’t question the coaches, they stayed focused and delivered,” added Reid. “However, that falls, I don’t know how to categorize that, but I just think it could have been the biggest challenge. You’ve seen that with the teams, when things don’t go well they just fall apart there “Down. Our guys didn’t do that, they all stayed together and trusted.”
