Wireless inductive charging that works through electrodes and coils is still not available everywhere or on all devices, but XDA points out that Xiaomi is taking a leap to the next step: remote wireless charging. “True” contactless wireless charging could power devices several meters away, and Xiaomi is touting its approach, dubbed Mi Air Charge Technology.
We have seen remote wireless charging equipment before, including the Energous WattUp approach, we awarded the Best of CES award in 2015. However, they have not yet hit the market, and although Xiaomi does speak no details in regards to the release date or compatible hardware, showing a demo and talking about the 17 patents it has is more than what we’ve seen from other phone makers.
