Kadarius Toney, 4 other Bills draft targets playing in 2021 Senior Bowl

The Buffalo Bills drafted several players from Reese’s Senior Bowl under the direction of Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane.

In McDermott’s first season with the Bills, Buffalo drafted four players who were on the Senior Bowl rosters: Tre’Davious White, Dion Dawkins, Zay Jones and Nathan Peterman. Beane found two key players in White and Dawkins.

In 2018, Buffalo got to take a look at his future franchise, QB Josh Allen. In addition to Allen, Buffalo also selected Wyatt Teller, Harrison Phillips, Taron Johnson, and Siran Neal. Levi Wallace, another Senior Bowl player, was added to the roster after the draft.

Buffalo was not as active in the Senior Bowl Prospects Draft in 2019 and 2020. Jaquan Johnson and Tommy Sweeney were the only sections in 2019 while quarterback Tyree Jackson joined the team after the draft. Last year, kicker Tyler Bass and cornerback Dane Jackson were the Senior Bowl rookies while Trey Adams was added to the roster after the draft.

Every year there seem to be at least a few players who come to Buffalo after playing the Senior Bowl. For this reason, fans should keep a close eye on this year’s game which will be played on Saturday, January 30 at 2:30 p.m.

With that in mind, here are five 2021 Senior Bowl players Buffalo could target in this year’s draft.

WR Kadarius Toney, Florida

Tyreek Hill is known as the Human Cheat Code for a reason and looked like a game against Buffalo. Hill not only found ways to open up, but then terrorized the Bills’ defense with his elusive.

The Bills offense was very successful in 2020, but they lacked a player who could take it home every time he touched it. Get Florida WR Kadarius Toney into the roster and Buffalo’s attack could take another step forward in 2021.

Here’s what CBS Sports said about the Florida Gator:

When reviewing screening reports, the breakdown does not always match the score. In Toney’s case, the rating may not be high enough. He’s quick, nimble, and elusive. NFL teams can use it on jet sweeps, wide receiving screens, and many other ways, similar to Tyreek Hill in Kansas City. The Mobile native has an athletic build that allows him to fight through contact. His speed in and out of breaks is an example of the distance covered this year. The most important trait when evaluating players for me is natural movement. Some players are just more comfortable in their own skin and it’s obvious that every part of their body is moving in unison. Toney checks the box.

Toney is an explosive playmaker who drew comparisons to former Chiefs wide receiver Dante Hall. Despite being screened as a slot machine catcher, Buffalo could use Toney the same way they used Isaiah McKenzie, a soon-to-be free agent.

WR D’Wayne Eskridge, Western Michigan

Another fast and explosive player who could be on the Bills’ radar is D’Wayne Eskridge. In addition to his speed, Eskridge is a solid road racer. Part of his success as a receiver likely comes from the fact that Eskridge was once a defensive back, so he knows a lot about leverage and what he sees in front of him before the breakup.

Buffalo has a lot of talent and depth to the receiver as is, but the team could realistically part ways with John Brown this offseason to create some extra ceiling space. The Bills’ top three Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis would be able to carry the load for the job in the short term, but Eskridge could bring Brown’s role from a speed perspective.

In addition to playing catcher, Eskridge has the ability to return kicks. With Andre Roberts’ contract expiring, Buffalo may be looking to get younger in the job.

C / G Quinn Meinerz, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

Buffalo loves positional versatility and Quinn Meinerz brings that first and foremost to the table.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater perspective plays with physicality, as noted by Daniel Jeremiah.

Athletic NFL Draft Analyst Dane Brugler also gushes from Meinerz declaring: “I love his playing behavior, finishing guys on the floor. He opens his eyes to the league.

The Bills have some tough decisions to make along the offensive line. Center Mitch Morse has been great since joining the Bills, but there are concussion issues. The team could seek to restructure its contract this offseason. Locker room favorite among teammates and coaches Jon Feliciano will be a free agent.

Meinerz could be a draft pick that protects both short and long term bills. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater prospect could compete for a starting guard post out of the gate while ultimately taking the central position from Morse.

C Creed Humphrey, Oklahoma

Meinerz is helping his draft supply in the Senior Bowl, but Creed Humphrey is already top of the list at center position in this year’s draft.

Humphrey has watched the Senior Bowl practice role by all accounts and could be on the line for Buffalo early in the draft. In his career with the Sooners, Humphrey has been exceptional.

Hamsah Nasirildeen, S / LB, State of Florida

Travis Kelce has had his way with the Bills defense in the AFC Championship. No matter what Buffalo tried, the tight end seemed to be wide open. The end result was a 13-118-2 stat line on 15 targets.

Buffalo needs someone who can take the tight end in the passing game and Hamsah Nasirildeen can be a prospect who can get the job done. Pro Football Focus believes in the features of a ‘tight eraser’.

Nasirildeen is one of the guys who could use the added tape after his recovery from an ACL tear at the end of 2019 which limited him to just two games in 2020. Watch what he can do against the running backs and tight ends in the men’s cover, like the 6-foot-4, 220-pound safety has tight gum lines.

Maybe Nasirildeen could help Buffalo with his tight end blanket problem.
