FLOWERY BRANCH, Georgia – The Atlanta Falcons have named Kyle Smith vice president of player personnel, the team announced Friday.
Smith joins the Falcons after 11 seasons with the Washington football team. He has spent most of his career in Washington in college scouting, but was promoted to vice president of player personnel in January of last year. In 2020, Smith oversaw both academic and professional front office staff aspects.

Prior to his promotion, Smith spent three years as the team’s academic staff director. In this role, he led the organizational assessment of college talent and managed scouting efforts at the regional and national levels. After spending a year as an intern in 2010, he joined the team full-time in 2011. Smith spent six seasons as a regional scout for the organization, most recently managing the scouting efforts. team in the South East region.
Smith graduated from Youngstown State, where he received a two-time honorable mention for all conferences while playing 2002-05 wide receiver and punt returner. He signed as a varsity free agent with the Minnesota Vikings, where he spent part of the 2006 offseason. In January 2007, he was signed by Tampa Bay, who awarded him to the Berlin Thunder of the NFL Europe. He later completed training camps in the Arena Football League and the Canadian Football League.
Smith was born in Warwick, RI, and raised in Buffalo, New York. He is the son of longtime NFL executive AJ Smith.
