After the “ soft launch ” on Friday, the second vaccine doses begin Monday at 2 sites managed by the city

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – City staff are preparing to administer a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 12,000 people who received their first injection at one of Jacksonville’s senior centers.

A few hundred people received their second shot on Friday at Lane Wiley Center or the Mandarin Elderly Center in which Mayor Lenny Curry called for a soft launch.

“(We) have identified people to do a phased launch, which is smart because, again, we’re all new to this area. What we’ve demonstrated at the city level, whether it’s giving out stimulus checks, whether it’s testing and now – vaccines, ”Curry said.

The two sites stopped administering the first doses of the vaccine a week ago after the city’s stocks ran out. The city has kept enough supplies to give those who received their first injection a second dose at the same location, starting Monday.

“These are for city sites only and available only to those who received their first dose at one of these locations,” Curry said.

Those who have already received the first doses at these sites are kindly requested to bring an identity document and the injection registration card given to them during their first injection.

To save time, the city is also asking those receiving their second dose to bring a COVID-19 vaccination screening and consent form, which can be found here. Printed forms will also be available at the centers.

Here’s an overview of how scheduling works:

If your last name begins with A, B, C or D, come to the site between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

If your last name begins with E, F, G or H, come to the site between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

If your last name begins with I, J, K or L, come to the site between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

If your name begins with M, N, O or P, come to the site between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.

If your name starts with Q, R, S or T, come to the site between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

If your name starts with U, V or W, visit the site between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

If your last name begins with X, Y or Z, come to the site between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Those who cannot come at their designated time are requested to arrive on site between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. The sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Patients will receive a reminder phone call the day before their second dose deadline.

The city said the second doses would be given until February 12.

The first doses of the coronavirus vaccine are only administered at the state-run site at Regency Square Mall.

Curry said the city could reopen sites for the first doses when more supplies become available.

“It’s easy to get frustrated, the situation is where it is now,” Curry said. “A very big organized effort that has to happen all over the United States in all states and all cities and counties. So my goal is to build relationships and work with people, to get the vaccine to the people of Jacksonville as quickly as possible.
