Period of calm ahead?

We come to an entire calendar year since recruits were able to make official or informal visits to schools. (Not to mention the self-guided tours, or as you’d like to put it, that players like Raesjon Davis, Zen Michalski, and other rookies took to see the state of Ohio.)

The current NCAA time-out runs until April 15, but there could be significant news going on regarding the recruiting schedule.

Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported this week via Twitter that NCAA administrators have been recommended to implement a period of silence beginning after April 15. This period of calm would run from April 16 to June 30, which would be a game-changer to get things back on track in the recruiting world.

As Thamel notes, during a quiet time, campus visits – and face-to-face interactions with college coaches on campus – are permitted.

Considering Ohio State’s performance in recruiting when in-person interactions are allowed, this could be the time – once the news is official – for the Buckeyes to build momentum on the track. recruiting this spring and summer.

It’s also good news for Washington’s five-star defensive end JT Tuimoloau and his camp. Tuimoloau’s father told 247Sports this week that he would wait “until at least April” to commit to college as he wants the opportunity to visit.

It’s possible that Tuimoloau will wait even longer to take tours and get those interactions on campus with coaches from Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Washington, and USC, his last five schools. That could give each of those programs (notably Ohio State and Alabama, the two presumed favorites) some time to make their final push for the nation’s No.3 player in the 2021 category.

Buckeyes picks up PWO

Ohio State landed a #BOOM Thursday night, albeit of the smaller stage variety.

Cayden Saunders, a 5-foot-10 running back / cornerback from Northville, Mich., High school, announced that he had accepted a scholarship to Ohio State and would join the U.S football program. Buckeyes as a favorite walk-on. .

As Dan pointed out, Saunders’ dad once played for Ohio State and is an agent for one of Ryan Day’s former quarterbacks:

Pretty sure the Buckeyes had a success story with a previous date with the Saunders last name.

Dunn’s Fourth Star

Safety signatory Jantzen Dunn finally got a well-deserved boost in his rankings this week.

Dunn, who is arguably the Buckeyes’ 2021 most underrated rookie and one of the most underrated in the whole country, was finally awarded his fourth star by Rivals.

It was a long time for Dunn. It is ranked # 146 overall and # 7 for safety via the 247Sports ranking, but Rivals places it all the way down at # 26 for safety.

There had been some frustration for a while from Dunn’s camp that he wasn’t rated as highly by Rivals, but he eventually got his due. And that led to his lovely response on Twitter when he heard the news.

Burton still solid

We talked about this a few weeks ago, but one of the Buckeyes’ best rookies in the 2022 class has tripled.

Five-star wide receiver Caleb Burton, engaged in Ohio state since Nov. 23, made it clear in mid-January that he was “going nowhere.”

This week, Burton told recruiting analyst CJ Vogel he is still locked in with the Buckeyes despite Steve Sarkisian becoming the head coach of Texas and his relationship with Brian Hartline remains as impactful as ever.

Stockton picks the Bulldogs

One of Ohio State’s former quarterback goals in the 2022 category is off the market. Again.

Georgian quarterback Gunner Stockton, who signed to South Carolina in August before stepping down two weeks ago, has announced his commitment to his Bulldogs.

Stockton is the No. 27 overall and the No. 1 double-threat quarterback in the country at Peach State’s Rabun County High School.

OSU signs up as All-Americans

Five Ohio State commitments in the 2022 class were named All-Americans this week, while Quinn Ewers, Jaheim Singletary, CJ Hicks, Gabe Powers and Dasan McCullough were each named Junior All-Americans by MaxPreps.

Singletary was named the first team defensive All-American while Ewers, Hicks, Powers and McCullough were all second team selections.

Other Buckeye targets that made the list included cornerbacks Denver Harris and Will Johnson and defensive lineman Caden Curry.
