Brian Sicknick, policeman killed in insurgency, lying in honor on Capitol Hill

Rep. Ralph Norman and Senator Tim Scott had been pushing for Sicknick to be honored under the Rotunda earlier this week. The two South Carolina Republicans on Thursday introduced a bill that would also require the House Sergeant-at-Arms to pay Sicknick’s funeral costs and install a commemorative plaque in the building.

“The United States Congress is united in sorrow, gratitude and solemn appreciation for the service and sacrifice of Officer Brian Sicknick,” Schumer and Pelosi said in a statement Friday. “The heroism of Officer Sicknick and the Capitol Police in the violent insurgency against our Capitol has helped save lives, defend the temple of our democracy, and ensure that Congress is not turned away from it. our duty to the Constitution. His sacrifice reminds us every day of our obligation to our country and to the people we serve.

Sicknick died after being assaulted by rioters during the attack on the Capitol. He was one of many to die of the insurgency, including two other police officers who later committed suicide.
