The Knicks keep a close watch Bulls keep Zach LaVine and the ability to acquire it via trade before the March 25 deadline, reports SNY’s Ian Begley.
It’s not certain Chicago will listen to offers on LaVine, but the Knicks have draft capital that could intrigue the Bulls, Begley notes. New York has its future first players and has 2021 and 2023 first-round players from the Mavericks of the Kristaps Porzingis okay, although the latter of those choices has protections.
The Bulls would likely ask for another young star in any deal involving LaVine, Begley surmises.
A Immanuel Quickley-LaVine could be the Knicks’ long-term fix in the backcourt, provided they re-sign him.
LaVine, 25, becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2022. He earns $ 19.5 million this season and the same season next season. He could be looking for maximum money, or close to it, in his next contract.
Ahead of the season, the Bulls pushed back openings for LaVine. He’s posting big stats yet again – 27.0 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 5.3 APG, 39.7% from 3 – but he’s also committing 4.3 turnovers per game. Additionally, LaVine’s efforts did not translate into victories. Chicago starts the weekend with a 7-10 record.
The Nets also had an interest in LaVine prior to acquiring James harden, Begley adds.
