CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo seems excited to announce Super Bowl LV.

Talking to reporters about the upcoming Chiefs-Buccaneers game, Romo stepped up the battle between the two quarterbacks, calling it a “legacy game” for Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady.

Romo believes Mahomes, who is only in his fourth year in the league, has the potential to be the best quarterback ever.

“He’s the only kid who will be in the discussion,” Romo said of Mahomes’ chances of becoming the best at playing the game. “This is the game people will be talking about in 25 to 50 years. As a football fan it’s as good as it gets. This one is really special.

While Romo has touted Mahomes’ chances of being an all-time great, he still thinks Super Bowl LV is a must if he hopes to be the best quarterback ever.

“The fact that Patrick Mahomes is sort of in this discussion shows you how amazing this guy is,” Romo said. “There is a chance for Patrick Mahomes to play this game, to climb the ranks. If Mahomes wins, he keeps this door open. If Brady wins, I don’t know how anyone can beat him.

“This is the biggest game Patrick Mahomes will play for the rest of his career,” Romo added later. “That’s the only way to catch Tom Brady. If he loses this game, he can’t catch Tom Brady, in my opinion.

A win would give Mahomes his second Super Bowl victory and give the 25-year-old plenty of time to tie the six Super Bowls Brady has won. However, a Brady win would certainly make it difficult to catch up as Brady would hold seven Super Bowl titles against Mahomes. On top of that, Brady would also break the 2-2 record he has in his career against Mahomes, winning both playoff games in between.

No matter who wins, Romo thinks football fans are gone for a Super Bowl for the ages.

“It will be one of the great clashes in the history of the sport,” Romo said. “That’s what you talk about with your friends. Can you imagine if Michael Jordan brought his team to the final against LeBron – who is becoming the face of the league? We get that in this Super Bowl. It’s like Jack Nicklaus vs. Tiger Woods.

Romo will call Super Bowl LV alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz on CBS.
