Weather in New York: Winter storm will bring snow to part of Tri-State from Sunday evening

NEW YORK (WABC) – A major winter storm is expected to arrive in the Tri-State area on Sunday evening and continue on Tuesday.

The storm will follow the coldest air mass of the season, resulting in unique, sub-zero digital wind chills across the region on Friday.

The cold air sets the stage for the potential for significant snowfall and a winter storm watch has been issued for parts of New Jersey starting Sunday evening.

AccuWeather follows the system running across the country. Forecast models show an increasing threat to a significant prolonged coastal storm system.

Meteorologist Lee Goldberg said at this time the storm will likely bring the heaviest snow south of the city.

Heavy snowfall could be accompanied by strong gusts of wind, especially in parts of New Jersey where the watch was issued.
