Lions coach Dan Campbell said Matthew Stafford’s trade talks are continuing.
Campbell told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that Stafford’s discussions obtained “hot and heavy. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport Adds Trade Should Be Agreed before the Super Bowl, although the exchange cannot actually be consumed until the league year begins in March.
The Lions and Stafford have mutually agreed that Stafford will be traded, and the only question remaining is where he will go and how much the Lions will receive. The team is looking for at least one first-round pick.
Once Stafford is traded, the Lions begin the long process of rebuilding a team that is near the bottom of the league in terms of overall talent level right now. The good news for the Lions is that they’ll be rebuilding themselves with a fair amount of ceiling space and draft picks. Campbell and new general manager Brad Holmes should have the ammunition to make a difference.
