Daniel Bryan and Talking Smack are perfect together. While it’s never the same as her All-sponsored epic in 2016-2017 on the show with Renee Young, DB’s appearances on the rebooted show were pretty awesome.
His last visit to Smack down post-show had it all. Bryan continued the work he started when he was a Talking Smack invited in December, and has continued on Friday night and in interviews since, preparing for tomorrow’s “one last run” of the Royal Rumble at the main event of WrestleMania 37. Here he did it by contrasting his love of professional wrestling in its purest form with universal champion Roman Reigns, a more mercenary and commercial approach to the square circle.
“There are a few things that you go wrong, and it has to do with motivation and what makes me tick. I am not interested in fame. I’m not interested in fan adulation, despite all the chants of yes. Do you know what i liked I loved it when we were at the Performance Center, wrestling in front of zero noiseless people, just wrestling. Do you know what made people like me? I don’t know if you remember the Royal Rumble 2015? I don’t know if you remember? I lost, very quickly. This is the one Roman Reigns won. It was in Philadelphia. I was in the ring for maybe 5 minutes. 5 minutes total in this Royal Rumble, but when Roman Reigns won everyone booed. The Rock congratulated him. The Rock saying, “Oh man, you’re the man,” and The Rock putting Roman, people boo.
“I have a theory as to why this is, and this is it. I think you’re right, Roman Reigns might be the best right now. He plays on a whole different level than everyone else, but he doesn’t struggle with his heart. It’s a facade, it always has been. He came over there when he got his start in this business with a vest, a bulletproof vest so you couldn’t see his heart. I have a theory that why they connected with me, it happens every night, I put my heart there. It happened to SmackDown, it’s true. I’ve been wrestling for 21 years, Paul. You go over there and you’ve been there 30 minutes, 45 minutes, a lot of guys that have been in this business for as long as I have been, they were getting on the apron. I come into this with a chance to fight The Miz, who I absolutely hate, and there’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be. So the big difference isn’t who’s the best or who wants the glory, it’s who’s willing to go out there and fight with heart.
But that’s not all! We also had a weird Bryan – you know, the guy who wrestles bears and always had a sexual double meaning ready for Renee on the old one. Talking Smack. Here my man reveals that his hip and glute focused workouts with Chad Gable & Otis at Alpha Academy will get him to “hunt so many men” in the Rumble, and … yeah.
