“Saturday Night Live” wasted no time delving into January’s many political dramas in its first show of the year this weekend after more than a month of vacation.
In the show’s “Blue Georgia” sketch, cast members and guest host John Krasinski portray the generally reliable red state as avocado toast, vegan meatloaf, and a heated porch. the country’s solar energy.
The “politically correct” transformation follows the state’s actual election of two Democrats to the US Senate in two run-off contests on Jan. 5, ousting the incumbent Republicans.
“It’s good to see a fellow Blue Stater. We’re like all of you,” a small town Georgian waitress, played by Aidy Bryant, told a New York tourist, played by cast member Pete. Davidson, entering the restaurant.
“Do you know where the men’s room is?” Davidson, asks after sitting down.

After Davidson admits his surprise the restaurant has toilets for all genders, Bennett jokes that Davidson thinks all Georgians are “crazy Christians.”
“Oh no, and even if it does, that’s fine,” Davidson replies. “I am Jewish.”
“I hope you know what we’re doing to the Jews here in Georgia,” Bennett warned, while Skeeter ominously warned.
“We elect them!” he laughs, referring to Sen. Jon Ossoff, the Democrat who beat Republican Sen. David Perdue in one of two rounds. Ossoff thus became the state’s first American Jewish senator. (On January 5, Senator Raphael Warnock, the state’s first black US Senator was also victorious. He defeated Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler.)
Later in the sketch, Deputy Jimmy, played by Andrew Dismukes, bursts into the restaurant, saying how “honored” he was that a group of Black Lives Matter activists wanted to “protest in our town! ”
Next, a Floridian wearing a MAGA hat, played by Alex Moffatt, walks into the restaurant and receives a stern callback from Krasinski, the town sheriff.

“This is the country of Stacey Abrams,” the lawmaker warns, referring to the top Democrat who lost a race for state governor in 2018 and went on to launch Fair Fight Action, a group credited with helping Democrats win both US Senate elections.
But at the end of the sketch, the only thing that has not changed is the collective refusal of restaurant customers to wear masks to protect themselves from the coronavirus.
“Because we are free!” They shout.
The show also clashed with U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., During the cold opening, sketched the GameStop stock controversy and poked fun at the U.S. Capitol riots and the impeachment of former President Trump.
