Mr Weaver was one of the few veteran Republican operatives who formed Project Lincoln because, they said, they viewed Mr Trump as a danger to the country. With mocking ads that often went viral, the group has become a very visible opponent of the Trump presidency.
Mr Schmidt said in the interview that Project Lincoln did not have an office when Mr Weaver was involved, so the founders and staff were not together. He said the group were “outraged and horrified” to learn of Mr. Weaver’s behavior.
