Some places have already seen over nine inches of snow this weekend, but even more is on the way as a weather system is expected to stay in the area for much of Sunday.
A winter storm warning will remain in effect for most of Sunday, with the warning due to expire at 6 p.m.

More than 250 flights canceled at Chicago airports due to snowstorm
As snow continues to fall in the Chicago area, more than 250 flights were canceled at city airports on Sunday.
According to the Chicago Department of Aviation, at least 190 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport as of 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Flights that take off do so on average 23 minutes late, according to CDA.
In Midway, at least 70 flights have been canceled due to inclement weather, the department said. Delays are less than 15 minutes.
Winter storm warning canceled in several western counties
A winter storm warning, originally supposed to last up to 6 p.m., has been canceled and replaced with a winter weather warning in several counties west of the city of Chicago.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning has been rescinded in Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb and LaSalle counties.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect as snow may still fall. High winds could also cause reduced visibility and slippery conditions due to blowing snow.
Nearly 200 flights canceled at Chicago airports due to snowstorm
As snow continues to fall in the Chicago area, nearly 200 flights were canceled at city airports on Sunday.
According to the Chicago Department of Aviation, at least 130 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Flights that take off do so on average 47 minutes late, according to CDA.
In Midway, at least 61 flights have been canceled due to inclement weather, the department said. Delays are less than 15 minutes.
Chicago officials remind residents and business owners to clear sidewalks amid storm
As a winter storm continues to dump snow on the Chicago area, city officials are reminding residents to “make good neighbors” in the midst of the storm.
According to city officials, more than 300 snow removal vehicles have been at work since Saturday night clearing city streets, and residents are invited to participate as well by clearing sidewalks in front of homes and businesses.
Snowfall updates come from the National Weather Service
The National Weather Service has updated its snowfall totals across the region, and some places are approaching 10 inches of snow amid the ongoing winter storm.
At the NWS offices in Romeoville, 9.5 inches of snow have so far been reported during the storm. This matches what a weather station reported in the Ravenswood area of Chicago, according to figures from the NWS.
Northwest Indiana was also hit hard by the storm, with Demotte in Jasper County reporting 9.7 inches of snow. Crown Point in Lake County reported 8.5 inches of snow during the storm.

CTA trains delayed due to heavy snowfall
According to the Chicago Transit Authority, trains on the Brown, Green and Orange lines are delayed due to heavy snowfall on Sunday:
Over 100 canceled flights at Chicago airports
At 8:45 a.m. as of Sunday, 88 flights were canceled at O’Hare, while 54 others were canceled at Midway, according to the Chicago Department of Aviation.
Further flight cancellations are possible throughout the day, as the snow is expected to continue into the afternoon.
At 8 a.m., 6.8 inches of snow fell in O’Hare, with an additional 7.4 inches in Midway, according to the National Weather Service.
Latest snowfall totals in the Chicago area
Snowfall totals continue to be released by the National Weather Service, with some places already reporting more than nine inches of snow on Sunday.
At Chicago Midway Airport 7.4 inches of snow fell, while O’Hare Airport reported 6.8 inches at 8:30 a.m.
In Westchester 9.3 inches of snow were reported, while in New Lenox 9.1 inches of snow is currently on the ground, with more snow expected throughout Sunday.

Sunday forecast: snow, snow and more snow
In some places west and south of Chicago, snowfall of more than 6 to 9 inches has already been reported, according to the National Weather Service. At the NWS office in Romeoville, 9.5 inches of snow was recorded Sunday at 7 a.m., and winds off Lake Michigan are expected to help fuel additional totals in the northern parts of the NBC observation area 5.
Snow will begin to end in the western suburbs in the early afternoon, with the city of Chicago and the immediately surrounding suburbs potentially seeing snow continue into the late evening, according to current forecast models.
In all, we can expect an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow in most areas, with locally heavier totals possible, particularly near Lake Michigan.
Temperatures will settle into the lows by mid-30 on Sunday.
The start of the workweek will start dry, giving area residents plenty of time to clean up after heavy snowfall over the weekend. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, but by Thursday highs could potentially climb into the low-40s as another weather system approaches the region.
