The Rams ended up with an NFC North quarterback. They tried to get another one first.
Sam Farmer of the LA Times reports that the Rams run a race to Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Per Farmer, the Packers were “adamant” they weren’t trading Rodgers. Farmer did not elaborate on the Rams’ offer for Rodgers – if it even got to this point.
The Packers have made it public that they don’t want to trade Rodgers. Rodgers, after suggesting free of charge last week that his future with the Packers was uncertain, attempted to put most of the toothpaste back in the tube a few days later.
While it’s clear the Packers want Rodgers for 2021 and Rodgers want to stay, Rodgers also wants clarity regarding his status, in the form of a contractual engagement that clearly binds player and team together for two or three years, if not longer. .
Whether Rodgers gets that commitment and the clarity that comes with it is, as Rodgers would call it, a beautiful mystery.
