Derrick Henry would less like to see Deshaun Watson

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry would be happy to see less Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson – and not because they were the Pro Bowl representatives for the AFC’s 32-12 loss to NFC in “Pro Bowl: The Madden NFL 21 Edition” on Sunday.

With Sunday’s Pro Bowl canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, a streaming video game version has taken its place with Henry and Watson representing the AFC with former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson and Snoop Dogg as famous member. But they lost to Jamal Adams, Seattle Seahawks safety, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, former NFL running back Mashawn Lynch and NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace.

Watson disagrees with the Texans and wants to be traded. Because Houston is an AFC South Tennessee rival and is on the Titans’ schedule twice a season, Henry agrees with Watson to move to another team as it would be “better for us.”

“It always came down to the wire,” Henry told Yahoo Sports of the Titans’ games against the Texans. “He’s the kind of player from Deshaun. I know Deshaun so well. I wish the best in everything that happens to her. But like I said, it’s better for us that he’s out of the division. We really appreciate it.

As an Alabama running back, Henry won the 2015 Heisman Trophy when Watson, who was Clemson’s quarterback, was also a finalist.

Tennessee have won their last three games against Houston, with Henry for 673 yards and seven touchdowns. But Watson is 3-3 against the Titans as the Texans’ starting QB, with four of games decided by six points or less.

If Watson gets his wish, Houston won’t be the only AFC South team with a new quarterback. Philip Rivers of the Indianapolis Colts retired after the 2020 season, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to select a quarterback with the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Opposing quarterbacks won’t be all that’s new for Henry in 2021. Henry has led the NFL to rush over the past two seasons with Arthur Smith calling the games for the Titans.

But Smith left his position as the Tennessee offensive coordinator to become the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

“I’m excited for Arthur,” Henry said. “I’m going to miss Arthur, man. I’ve been with Arthur since I joined the NFL and started playing for this organization. Arthur is a great guy. I couldn’t think of anyone else who more deserves this opportunity. I know he’s going to do a great job. I wish him the best in everything he does in his new coaching role in Atlanta. I know everyone in attack and in the organization will miss him.

Henry made the remarks before Tennessee named Smith’s replacement. Titans coach Mike Vrabel announced on Friday that coach Todd Downing has been promoted to offensive coordinator.

“Todd has done a great job with tight ends over the past two years and has been instrumental in the game planning process each week,” said Vrabel. “I was impressed with the details of his teaching and the production of his group and the offense in general. I’m sure he will have some new ideas to implement, but the basic system will be in place to build on, which I think is important.
