Are the Ducks ready to take the next step and compete for a national title in 2021?
There are a lot of additional questions that need to be answered to see if the Ducks can do it. It would probably need a better Case scenario for the Ducks to do just that, a scenario that would see a lot of improvement in the quarterback’s play, improved skill position and of course a solid first season from new Oregon defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter and of the Defense of Oregon.
ESPN shares this sentiment. Website Pac-12 writer Kyle Bonagura showcased the “best case scenario” for the Ducks in 2021 in an article that took a look at the top 25 teams in 2021 and what it would take to make the playoffs.
“After hitting the New Years Six Bowls over the past two seasons, it’s not hard to imagine the Ducks taking the next step and making it to the playoffs,” Bonagura wrote in the article. “Admittedly, their place at the Fiesta Bowl – and their loss – this season didn’t mean much as they qualified for the Pac-12 title game with a 4-2 pedestrian record, the recent success The Ducks’ recruiting campaign under Mario Cristobal is expected to pay off in a (hopefully) more normal 2021 season. Tyler shough or someone else starts at quarterback, a real offseason under offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead should make a significant difference for his second season calling on Eugene.
“Losing defensive coordinator Andy Avalos, who has gone on to become Boise State head coach, is a big blow. However, there is a lot of talent in defense, led by a potential American defensive end. Kayvon thibodeaux. “
Oregon won the Pac-12 in consecutive years for the first time since the early 2010s (2009-11). They will be bringing back almost all of their best offensive players with just the tight end Hunter Kampmoyer leaving after the 2020 season. They will also be bringing back all of their best defensive players except four as defensive lineman Jordon Scott and Austin Faoliu are gone, as are Deommodore Lenoir and Nick Pickett in high school.
