SOPHIE, producer and DJ, died at 34

SOPHIE, the Scottish electronic producer and DJ who pushed pop into new experimental and forward-thinking territory, has died of an accident at the age of 34. On January 30, the artist’s labels Transgressive and Future Classic co-tweeted a statement that read: “Tragically, our beautiful Sophie passed away this morning after a terrible accident. True to her spirituality, she had climbed to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be there with us. According to Pitchfork, SOPHIE died around 4 a.m. in Athens, Greece, where she lived.

SOPHIE appeared in the early 2010s with enriched songs like “BIPP”, which made it to Vulture’s Best Songs of the Year list in 2013. After following the single “Lemonade / Hard” in 2014, the SOPHIE’s first album, Product, debuted in 2015. The following year, SOPHIE brought her PC Music sound to production on Charli XCX Vroom Vroom EP.
