Angels Acquire Cobb in Trade with Orioles
The Los Angeles Angels acquired veteran right-hander Alex Cobb in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles, according to Dan Connolly and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. All commercial details remain uncertain at this time. Cobb, 33, is entering the final year of his four-year, $ 57 million contract and owes $ 15 million.
The Angels send infielder Jahmai Jones to the Orioles in trade, Rosenthal adds. Jones, 23, was the Angels second-round pick in 2015. He went from center-back to second baseman in 2018, and is ranked 11th best prospect in Los Angeles, according to Baseball America.
The Angels have a crowded rotation for next season, but uncertainty remains. Mets trade with Marlins for a right-hander
The New York Mets acquired right-hander Jordan Yamamoto in a trade with the Miami Marlins, the teams said Monday. In exchange for Yamamoto, the Marlins received minor leaguer Federico Polanco. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets have named infielder Robel Garcia for an assignment.
Yamamoto, 24, has been nominated for an assignment by the Marlins after a difficult 2020 season. There is potential after a decent 2019 season (4-5, 4.46 ERA, 82 strikeouts, 15 starts), but he gave up 23 earned runs in just 11 1/3 innings of work over the course of the abridged campaign. Most notably, Yamamoto was one of the former Milwaukee prospects included in Christian Yelich’s 2018 trade that sent the All-Star to the Brewers.
Polanco, 19, is an infielder whose highest level so far is the Rookie League. He can play shortstop, second, and / or third, but is probably better suited as a long-term second baseman. In two minor league seasons, Polanco reached .244 / .318 / .324 with 20 doubles and 50 RBIs.
