Netflix is in talks to make a movie based on the Wall Street GameStop kerfuffle, according to a report from Deadline.
Mark Boal, the writer of Detroit and Triple frontier, is in negotiations to write the unnamed film. Noah Centineo, the actor behind the teenage role in numerous Netflix movies like To all the boys that I’ve loved before, will play a major role. No other casting role has been announced.
Note that this project is different from the announcement that MGM has acquired the rights to an as yet unwritten book by Ben Mezrich on the action GameStop. They are two separate films.
GameStop’s stock price remains volatile, after a week in which it peaked at $ 347.51, garnering attention from mainstream media. The price fluctuates wildly due to a standoff between institutional investors who are selling the stocks short and Reddit-organized day traders determined to hold their stocks and push its price up.
At the time of publication, the share price is $ 249.11, still more than 10 times its value at the start of the month. The surge in buyers of short stocks continued with other unlucky companies like AMC and Nokia.
The Robinhood brokerage app, which has been one of the favorite tools for so-called “same stock” traders, started restricting purchases of these stocks last week. But shareholders encourage each other to continue sending $ GME to the moon.
