McDonald’s Shamrock Shake: here’s when it’s back

Starting February 15, the fan-favorite milkshake and an Oreo Shamrock McFlurry will go on sale in restaurants across the United States for a limited time. These temporary deals, which include not only holiday items but also specials like McRib and celebrity meals, help McDonald’s build buzz and drive sales.

Shamrock Shake and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry returns on February 15.

McDonald’s began selling the Shamrock Shake in 1970. Over the years, the burger chain has brought back the original as well as variations like the “Shamrock Sundae” in 1980, a chocolate version in 2017 and the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry in 2020. The Shamrock Shake first went on sale nationwide in 2012.

Fast food chains are constantly competing for money and customer attention, and specialty offerings are one way to try to keep noise down.

Mcdonalds (MCD)has unveiled a number of items in this category in recent months, including spicy chicken nuggets and celebrity meals with singers J. Balvin and Travis Scott. The offers create “menu excitement that keeps customers engaged,” CEO Chris Kempczinski said during the latest McDonald’s earnings call. Sales at US restaurants that have been open at least a year were up 5.5% in the fourth quarter from a year ago.
The Shamrock Shake is part of a big month for McDonald’s, which is set to launch three new chicken sandwiches on February 24.
