We learn more about John Calipari’s puzzling comments regarding the status of his roster ahead of tonight’s game against Missouri.
“At this point I don’t know (how many players we’ll have),” Calipari said Tuesday afternoon before the team’s flight out of town. “I think it will be most guys. I don’t think it’s going to be like five or six guys. I think we’re going to have most of it. At this time, there is nothing related to COVID.
Uh, what?
So is someone in trouble? Has anyone quit? A new injury? what are we talking about here?
In his first public comments since a 48-hour quarantine ended the biggest home game on the calendar, Calipari said he was unsure who would be available for his team’s next game, just hours before. that the team’s flight leaves the airport.
Calipari’s words were empty as he danced around the truth that exists, a theme for many of his press conferences this season, and that has only added to the ongoing speculation around his team and to what’s going on behind the scenes of one of the show’s worst seasons.
It turns out that, via reports from Kyle Tucker and Matt Jones of KSR, at least one player, Jacob Toppin, is questionable for gambling with non-COVID disease.
An addition: Hearing Cats could also be without Jacob Toppin tonight due to illness (not COVID). https://t.co/T8K0uJaCc4

So there is a name on the questionable list, in addition to the regulars on this list, Terrence Clarke (ankle) and Cam’Ron Fletcher (coach decision).
Matt Jones also mentioned a few questions regarding the players who stepped out during the team’s quarantine, and whether that could impact their status for the game, although that could be a non-issue.
Another question mark surrounding Kentucky’s participation, the UK could also be without an assistant coach on the sidelines when the game ends at 7pm tonight.
We will know for sure then.
